01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Shinanoya’s Shinano soba is a generous bowl topped with shiitake mushrooms, chicken, tempura bits, a simmered egg and grated daikon. Diners have described the large bowl as filling, with plenty of noodles and toppings, and said they enjoyed the broth right to the end—a comforting choice for a cold day. One review also noted that spring onion and ginger were served separately, so they could be added whenever desired. The variety of toppings and the chance to adjust the flavour at your own pace are part of the appeal.

The lunchtime half-and-half set lets you choose one noodle dish and one rice bowl, making it fun to decide on a combination. Diners who ordered pairings such as tanuki soba with curry rice or chilled tanuki with a menchi-katsu rice bowl reported that the portions were more substantial than the set’s name might suggest. The set suits a hearty lunch, while an onigiri or a combination with rice on the side may be a better fit when you want to keep the meal lighter.

The soba and udon menu includes both hot and cold dishes. For chilled tanuki and chilled grated-daikon options, you can choose either soba or udon. Rice bowls, set meals and onigiri with fillings such as salmon, pickled plum and kelp round out the choices, whether you want noodles to take centre stage or prefer a rice-based meal.

Shinanoya is also an option for a solo lunch. The dining room has table seating, and bottled beer is available. Payment is cash only, so be sure to bring some with you.
